Troop 24 is sponsored by Bettendorf Rotary in Bettendorf, IA. Regular troop meetings are held on Tuesday nights from 7:00-8:30pm. We also have regular monthly outdoor activities associated with camping.
Each year we attend a week long summer camp where boys can work on a number of different merit badges or work on rank requirements as well as participate in a number of fun activities.
Our troop also is involved in a number of community service activities each year.
History
Troop 24 was officially re-chartered and active as of 2000. At that time:
- Dr. Bill Candler was the Scoutmaster.
- The Troop began with 4 scouts. (Including Andy Van Raalte, Matt Shaw, Garrett Eaton and Dan Candler.)
- Dr. Ben Van Raalte was Committee Chair
- Mr. Dwayne Eaton was Assistant Scoutmaster.
Since the original formation of the Troop, others have also actively participated with the Troop:
- Mr. Bill Beck later became an Assistant Scoutmaster, and when Dr. Ben Van Raalte stepped down, Mr. Beck accepted the position of Committee Chair.
- Mr. Doug Britz was the Advancement Chair for several years.
- The very first campout of Troop 24 was the Fall Camporee in 2000. The Troop had very little camping gear, and that weekend it rained all weekend!
- The first summer camp that Troop 24 participated in was at Camp LeFever in Wisconsin. Since that time, the Troop has consistently attended Camp Loud Thunder.
- The Troop has made 4 trips to Boundary Waters, and one trip to Philmont (with the council)
- In 2004, Mr. Dave Eyman accepted the position of Scoutmaster.
- In 2007, Mr. Bill Beck accepted the position of Scoutmaster.
- In December 2007, Mr. Paul DCamp accepted the position of Troop Scoutmaster.
- In February 2009, Mr. Jorge Rodriguez accepted the position of Troop Scoutmaster.
- In January of 2012, Mr. Kevin de la Bruere accepted the position of Troop Scoutmaster.
- In January of 2016, Mr. David Haberkorn accepted the position of Troop Scoutmaster.
- In January of 2020, Mr. Mark Zimmerman accepted the position of Troop Scoutmaster and Mr. David Farmer accepted the position of Troop Committee Chair.
- In January of 2023, Mr. Robert Gagnon accepted the position of Troop Scoutmaster and Mr. Marcus Needham accepted the position of Troop Committee Chair.
- The Troop had 61 registered Scouts and 30 registered Adults in March 2023.
